The UK Government is being urged to take control of the national food supply during the Covid-19 crisis by top adamemics at several UK universities. In an open letter to Defra minister George Eustice and Duncan Selbie of Public Health England, the government is being accused of handing control of the food systems to major food retailers and ignoring the nutritional needs of the population.

In the letter, the government is asked to provide support in several areas; providing guidance around nutrition to benefit the nation’s health and immunity; help consumers manage their food shopping and storage; also supporting food industry with operational information, from the smallest to the largest businesses.
